Barcelona defenders Sergi Roberto and Gerard Pique have picked up severe injuries and will remain out of action for several months, missing the Blaugrana’s Champions League clash against Juventus.
“Gerard Piqué and Sergi Roberto both picked up injuries in the 1-0 defeat against Atlético in the Wanda Metropolitano, and this Sunday both players have been able to know the extent of their injuries in more detail,” Barcelona’s official announcement reads.
”Barça's No.3 has a grade 3 sprain in the internal lateral ligament and partial injury to the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, while the No.20 has a rupture in the femoral rectus of his right thigh.
“It was Piqué's 10th appearance of the season; eight in LaLiga and two in the Champions League. Tests carried out this Sunday on first team player Gerard Piqué have shown that he has a grade 3 sprain in the internal lateral ligament and partial injury to the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. He is therefore not available for selection, and the evolution of the injury will condition his availability.
“Tests performed this Sunday on Sergi Roberto have shown that he has a rupture in the femoral rectus of his right thigh. The approximate time he will be out of action is two months. This was also the 10th game played by the versatile footballer from Reus; 7 played in LaLiga and the 3 in the Champions League.”
Pique had also missed the match against Juventus played in Turin in October due to suspension.
