Atalanta have officially activated their clause to buy goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini from Aston Villa.

The 23-year-old came through the SPAL and Fiorentina youth academies before he was poached by Manchester United in 2012.

He moved on to Hellas Verona, then Villa and in January 2017 he joined Atalanta on loan.

Today, the Bergamo boys officially activated their €4.3m option to buy Gollini outright.

He made only eight competitive appearances for Atalanta this season, sharing the role with Etrit Berisha.

“I tried to prove myself every time I was called upon and now I am very happy, as making this move permanent was my objective,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“It was a personal victory, I hope to find more playing time next season. I love my country and am very happy to be back in Italy.”
