Napoli have officially extended Raul Albiol’s contract to June 2021, despite interest from Villarreal, Valencia and Chelsea.
The veteran defender had been expected to leave the Stadio San Paolo and perhaps reunite with Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge.
Instead, it’s reported Coach Carlo Ancelotti personally called Albiol to reassure him of his place in the new project and convinced him to remain.
Albiol turns 33 in September and his current contract was due to expire in June 2020.
