Former Milan full-back Massimo Oddo is not surprised by his former club’s disastrous start to the season.

The Rossoneri have won just one game this term, 3-1 at Bologna, but have failed to score at home in losses to Sampdoria and Atalanta, while they drew with Anderlecht.

“With so many players sold and the others who left at the end of their contracts, we couldn’t have expected Milan to win immediately,” the 2006 World Cup winner, who spent last season on loan at Lecce from Milan, stated.

“However, the defeat to Sampdoria at home on the opening day of the season was a decisive factor. Since then the players have not been able to show what they are truly worth.

“Milan’s struggles this term are not just down to the tactics of the Coach, it also has to do with the nervousness of the players.

“When you undergo a revolution like they have, by focusing on youth, it is not always easy to get on the bandwagon straight away.

“What Allegri needs to do now is to find some new ideas. An entertaining victory is needed to lift morale.”

The tactician has used a variety of systems this season – 4-3-3, 4-3-1-2, 4-3-2-1 – and there are reports today that Allegri could now try a 4-2-3-1.
