The Italian Federation's director general denies any last-minute changes, suggesting Giampiero Ventura will be confirmed as the Azzurri Coach.

The successor to Coach Antonio Conte is expected to be announced before Euro 2016, and for a while the consensus suggested it would be former Torino Coach Ventura.

Recently, however, Il Fatto Quotidiano suggested that there may be political pressure on the FIGC to appoint a different man for the Nazionale.

Recently, however, Il Fatto Quotidiano suggested that there may be political pressure on the FIGC to appoint a different man for the Nazionale.

“The autonomy of the FIGC has always been guaranteed,” said director general Michele Uva, as reported by CalcioNews24.it. “What a certain newspaper wrote is ridiculous.

“The decision comes down entirely to the president, after a consultation with his closest collaborators, including myself.

“We are working within our schedule. We started talking about it after the Coppa Italia, and we'll announce the name at the federal council on June 7.”

Uva also discussed the most recent match-fixing scandal, involving Serie B and Azzurri player Armando Izzo.

“We are profoundly embittered. We are, after all, an industrial system worth €13 billion, so we are exposed to the interests of criminality. But we can't let our guard down.

“Conte? The reputation of the national team improved under him. Some say that we destroyed the Italia club, but the new FIGC rather consolidated the Azzurri by means of great investments.

“We'll have a medical-scientific area and our own scouting process. The federal territorial centres have now been born.”
