Lazio have rejected speculation that they are in talks with Juventus over the sale of Modibo Diakite.
“Absolutely not,” capital sporting director Igli Tare underlined. “I don’t know who is saying these things, but what can be said is that he has a contract with us until June 2013.
“There has never been any kind of negotiation and I believe that Juventus are well placed in defence and they don’t need him.”
The capital club are trying to get the Frenchman to sign a new contract given the risk that he could leave on a Bosman next season.
“He hasn’t renewed with us, but that doesn’t mean that he will be sold,” the Albanian continued. “The player is happy in Rome.”
The defender is 25 and joined the Biancocelesti in 2006 after a spell at Pescara.
