Lazio’s Eddy Onazi is out of the Confederations Cup, but the whole Nigeria squad might pull out due to a row over bonuses.

The Super Eagles were supposed to fly out from Namibia this afternoon, but refused to get on the plane.

They had been promised $10,000 bonuses for winning the African Cup of Nations, but that sum was halved by NFF President Aminu Maigari.

It’s not clear whether Nigeria will be able to take part in the Confederations Cup, where they are in the same group as Spain, Tahiti and Uruguay.

They are supposed to open their campaign against Tahiti in Belo Horizonte on Monday June 17 at 20.00 UK time. Reports from Nigeria insist the team will fly out on Saturday.

Regardless of the situation with bonuses, Nigeria will be without Lazio midfielder Onazi, as he picked up a knee injury during the 1-1 World Cup qualifier with Namibia last night.

“I thought it was something I could manage when it happened but there was no point pushing myself to the extreme,” 20-year-old Onazi told BBC Sport.

“Unfortunately, it means I will miss our Confederations Cup in Brazil.”
