Boca are among the favourites to sign De Rossi, who is a free agent after leaving Roma, but have so far been unable to clinch a deal for Burdisso’s former teammate.

“His arrival would be a bonus for him and a gift to the Boca fans, but signings in his position aren’t imperative for us.
“In his role we already have the likes of Nandez, Marcone, Capaldo and Campuzano, all of whom are doing well, but obviously having someone like him around would help them grow.
“From the moment we started talking, it seemed like a real possibility. I know Daniele very well and I know how important it’d be for this squad to share a dressing room with a world champion like him.
“But don’t say that he’d come here just to see [Boca’s stadium] La Bombonera because that would show a lack of respect.
“He’d come here to play. If he only wanted to see La Bombonera, he could just come here one Sunday with his wife and then go back to Italy.”
It was reported last week that the 35-year-old had agreed to join MLS side Los Angeles FC.
