If reaching an agreement with Bilbao proves impossible, then the current Italian champions could turn their attention to Negredo instead.
The player born in Madrid has been linked with several clubs over the summer and was believed to be on the verge of a move to Andalusian neighbours Malaga, before they were put up for sale by owner Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser Al-Thani.
The Spanish international was bought for €15m from Real Madrid three years ago after netting 31 League goals in 70 appearances during a spell at Almeria.
Negredo has scored 45 goals in 103 La Liga games at the Sanchez Pizjuan.
