Coach Maurizio Sarri is happy with Napoli's 1-0 win against Carpi and looks forward to Juventus: 'We'll show them pride'.
Rival Coach Max Allegri said today that the next Serie A showdown between the top two teams won't be decisive, but the Partenopei's troubled performance today should give him hope.
“Carpi were in a good condition both physically and mentally,” Sarri admitted after the win. “It was always going to be a complicated game.
“In the first half there was an obvious penalty in our favour, then [Jose] Callejon scored a valid goal. There were a few mistakes in terms of refereeing, but we were clear-headed when they countered.
“Carpi are the best team in Serie A in terms of attacking in depth, and this was the danger that they posed.
“The lads were pretty good in damming the qualities of their rivals. It's all good, we'll start thinking about Juventus from tomorrow.
“We'll visit the Stadium with a view to playing our own football and showing the pride of our people.”
The 57-year-old then went on to discuss Napoli's present condition of form.
“We're fortunate in that our staff is excellent, and this helps our players when they are in a good condition.
“Physically we're doing well, our numbers are pretty high even though we've changed a few things. It's always hard to manage our mental energies.
“Next week I won't need a great deal of speeches, I'll show myself being peaceful and calm so that the team can keep a clear head.
“We'll prepare the game the way that we always do. We'll isolate ourselves from everything that surrounds us, even though our supporters are a great deal of help.
“The love shown by the San Paolo for Kalidou Koulibaly, who has such a wonderful character, is something nice. But let's not talk about the chants in the Olimpico,” he said, in reference to the racist insults that the player suffered in Napoli's game against Lazio.”
