Napoli released a statement slamming “false and ridiculous” reports Rafa Benitez has gone AWOL this week.
The reports emerged in today’s papers, pointing out the team was back in training except for their Coach, who will remain in Liverpool until Thursday.
They suggested this was a sign of a ‘broken rapport’ between the club and Benitez, prompting Napoli to release an official statement this morning.
“As already announced yesterday, Rafa Benitez has taken some days off to rest, after he was at Nyon for the usual meeting between the most important European club Coaches in Europe, and is with his family in Liverpool.
“It is a perfectly normal thing to do, even if unusual for the canons of Italian football.
“Also, the team will rest three times over the next five days. Benitez will return to Naples on Wednesday to resume the co-ordination of training sessions on Thursday, coinciding with the return of the many international players four days before the game with Chievo.
“Reading today in some papers that the fact Benitez took a few days off is another sign of the ‘broken’ rapport with De Laurentiis is not only false, but also ridiculous.
“The rapport between the Coach and the Napoli President is excellent, as they have repeatedly stated, and that is the only truth here.”
