Alessio Tacchinardi believes that Napoli should switch formation to a 4-3-3 and build the team around Marek Hamsik and Gonzalo Higuain.

The Vesuviani have endured an indifferent start to the 2014-15 season, suffering early Champions League elimination and dropped points in three consecutive rounds of Serie A.

For the now retired Tacchinardi, a change in formation may provide Rafa Benitez with a bit more breathing room.

“Napoli are not yet cured, they must improve their play, the self-esteem of the players and the confidence of the environment,” the former Juventus midfielder has explained to Radio Crc.

“With the preliminary elimination from the Champions League, an incredible crack has opened up, but the value of Napoli is immense and this team has to fight for the title.

“The goals for Hamsik and Higuain have dried up in the League and the team need these two to once more be decisive.

“Napoli fit perfectly to a 4-3-3, because they need someone in the middle of the field to provide support

“Hamsik would be the ideal solution and I believe that Benitez should build the team around him and Higuain.

“The group that Napoli were in during last year’s Champions League was of the highest level, but now they are in the Europa League and the Azzurri should aim to win this competition.

“To rediscover their smile they need to win.”
