Bortolo Mutti is thrown straight in at the deep end as Palermo’s third Coach of the season, preparing to face Novara.

The Sicilians started the season with Stefano Pioli, who was sacked at the end of August, while Devis Mangia was axed on Monday after three consecutive defeats in all competition.

“We must overcome difficulties with great character, as it requires a decisive approach to begin again,” said Mutti.

“Tomorrow’s game is a starting point for us and must represent a new beginning. I expect a solid performance.”

Fabrizio Miccoli is a major fitness doubt who might not even be ready for a spot on the bench, while Mauricio Pinilla is suspended and Abel Hernandez still injured.

It’s not an easy start for the tactician, who has only been working with his new side for a couple of days.

“I found a cohesive unit of players. What counts now is that we all speak the same language and rediscover that belief that can allow us to play at a high level this season.

“The team has quality and I know these players can do important things. Palermo’s situation is not so bad. After January we will have a clearer picture of the side, as I need to mould it.”
