In an unexpected twist, Luis Muriel is in the Udinese squad travelling to face Fiorentina in Saturday’s Serie A season opener.

The first match of the new 2012-13 campaign kicks off at 17.00 UK time at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

Muriel had missed Wednesday’s 1-1 Champions League play-off draw with Sporting Braga and had been expected to be out for several weeks with a right thigh problem.

However, the Colombian is in the squad travelling to Florence tomorrow evening and should be on the bench.

Udinese have also brought along Fernando Forestieri, Gabriele Angella and Neuton, who will spend this term on loan to Watford, the club also owned by the Pozzo family.

As of this season, Serie A teams are allowed to have 12 players on the bench rather than the traditional seven.

There will also be six officials – including two goalline referees.

Udinese squad for Fiorentina: Brkic, Favaro, Pawlowski; Angella, Gabriel Silva, Armero, Basta, Benatia, Coda, Danilo, Domizzi, Heurtaux, Neuton, Pasquale; Badu, Battocchio, Faraoni, Willians. Pereyra, Zielinski; Fabbrini, Forestieri, Di Natale, Maicosuel, Muriel
