The Viola forward, who was prolific in the first half of last season, was ruled out of almost the entire second part of the campaign with knee ligament damage and missed this summer’s World Cup as a result.

According to reports, the former Manchester United man was initially suspected to be carrying thigh muscle injuries and underwent testing today.

However, the results indicated that he had in fact suffered an overload of pressure on his right knee.

The problem is not believed to be serious, but Rossi is said to have been told to rest for at least seven days. As a result, his involvement in Fiorentina’s first Serie A match of the season against Roma appears to be in doubt.
