Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Montella is in no rush to field Italian international Giuseppe Rossi following his January capture.

The forward hasn’t played competitive football since he snapped knee ligaments in October 2011 and then again in April 2012.

The American-born forward has now landed in Tuscany and is thought to be close to a full return.

“He’s still in the rehabilitation phase and he’s working with his own physiotherapist,” Montella told Sky Sport Italia.

“He’s physically fine, so he is therefore already at an excellent level.

“But let us have no illusions. If there are some surprises ahead this season then that will be great, but we need to let him get on with it in peace.”

Fiorentina have had an excellent season under Montella and the Tuscan club have given the tactician the stage to again underline his skills as a Coach.

“Will I stay at Fiorentina? I think so, but in football there is always the imponderable,” he added. “I do not think there are any reasons to think otherwise and there is synergy with the club.”
