The Tuscans saw off Dinamo Kiev 2-0 on Thursday to book their semi-final spot against Sevilla.
“There are three Serie A games to play before Sevilla and we don’t like being sixth. There’s time for the Europa League.
“We must use that enthusiasm to motivate us further. For example, we don’t like sixth place because it would not allow us to go into Europe directly and have a summer tour. This is why we must focus on Serie A first and then the Europa League.
“We saw the side was more determined on Thursday, but our finishing needs to improve. We are all working to do better. Victories help you to recover quicker and prepare for the next game.”
Montella defended his use of squad rotation, even if it prompted a shock home defeat to Verona.
“I would make all those choices again. It was necessary to have fresh legs in Europe and we were penalised by our errors against Verona. I will make changes tomorrow too, but I won’t say which yet. Alberto Gilardino had a good game with Verona and is in the best condition to start.”
Cagliari are in penultimate place and saw Coach Zdenek Zeman resign this week, making way for Gianluca Festa.
“It’s a new tactician, so we have less information to give our players and are somewhat in the dark.”
