Vincenzo Montella freely admits Fiorentina deserved to lose against Hellas Verona. “It was not a good performance, but it’s a tough fixture for everyone.”
Samuel Di Carmine – a lifelong Viola supporter – got the only goal of the game at the Stadio Bentegodi.
“It was not a good performance and we made a lot of technical errors, but also conceded a great goal during our best period of the match,” Montella told DAZN.

“It was not a good performance and we made a lot of technical errors, but also conceded a great goal during our best period of the match,” Montella told DAZN.
“We suffered against Verona, but I’m sure everyone will have that experience here, as it’s a tough fixture for everyone. We’ll analyse this game carefully and learn the right lessons from it.”
This was their second consecutive defeat after a 5-2 loss to Cagliari, so Montella was asked if he is worried.
“Only to the right degree. I know there are always going to be difficult moments for a team. There were reasons for our defeat to Cagliari, while today we made technical errors. The moment must come when we react to these setbacks too.”
Federico Chiesa was left on the bench after returning from international duty with a knock, while captain German Pezzella went off with a fractured cheekbone just four minutes in.
“Pezzella is having tests and it was certainly a big loss to lose him that early. Chiesa is not in good shape physically or mentally. When he gets back into shape, then he’ll start playing again.”
