The Chinese conglomerate that will be picking up the Rossoneri from Silvio Berlusconi has only signed a preliminary contract and still doesn't effectively own the club.
This means that they have only been able to contribute €15m to the transfer market, which prompted a dubious comment by Montella, wondering whether the Chinese had sent their check to the wrong address.
Apparently his sense of humour did not go down too well with the directors, and as a result the Coach back-tracked yesterday into an apology.
“It was a joke, I'm not being polemical,” he told Sky Sports Italia. “As I often do, I tried to deflect questions about the market by means of irony.
“And I made a joke about the future ownership of Milan, who invested very much, at a moment when they are still in the preliminary phase of the purchase.
“There was no other meaning or interpretation to my words. Above all, there was no intention to be polemical.”
