Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Montella is delighted with his strike pairing of Mario Gomez and Giuseppe Rossi.
The big German has had an injury plagued start to his Serie A career, but Montella is sure the club made no mistake in signing him from Bayern Munich in the summer.
“Mario is an extraordinary player,” the tactician told La Repubblica. “And I’m not saying that just for the sake of it.
“In the game at Genoa when we were 4-2 up with a few minutes left, we were suffering but Gomez went back to help defend.
“I knew that he was a strong attacker, but in that moment I understood that he was an extraordinary player.
“Men like that can change your life.”
Gomez has two goals in three League games so far, while January signing Rossi is the Serie A top scorer with 11 in 12.
“If I think about it, I can say that it is difficult to find a better player than Rossi right now,” the former Roma boss added.
Montella, during the same interview, was also asked about Juan Cuadrado – the tricky winger who is co-owned with Udinese.
“I hope he stays with us. But should he leave then we’d get a lot of money for him which would allow Fiorentina to become even stronger.
“Therefore I’m calm.”
