The Belgian midfielder joined the Nerazzurri this afternoon for €24m plus Nicolò Zaniolo and Davide Santon, with the fan favourite heading north for a reunion with Luciano Spalletti.
“We made a choice, that’s the work of a sporting director,” Monchi shrugged at Javier Pastore’s presentation.

“We made a choice, that’s the work of a sporting director,” Monchi shrugged at Javier Pastore’s presentation.
“I know that some will understand and some won’t, but an offer came in – as many have – and we evaluated it, negotiated and found an agreement.
“It’s the decision a sporting director must take, and I always step up and make these calls.
“I want to remember all the beautiful times we had together, and I wish him a big good luck, from the heart.
“As for the transfer campaign, I like that question because so far we’ve only heard talk about sales.
“Roma have made eight, maybe nine signings because we’re close to [William] Bianda [of Lens], while I don’t think many other sides have made all these signings.
“We’re always talking about sales, and so far Roma have sold Nainggolan, [Marco] Tumminello and [Lukasz] Skorupski.
“I’m happy with what we’ve done, I always try to have the squad ready as soon as possible, so the Coach can work with all the players.
“We haven’t finished our planning, but an important part of our work has been done. It’s a reason to be proud, to have worked so quickly with the confidence of the ownership.
“Today is June 26, we’re calm and we don’t have to look at Financial Fair Play. The financial director is smiling.
“That’s important and not all teams can say that. Sometimes it’s forgotten that there are sporting and financial rules, you all have so many different scenarios in your head.
“Roma were in trouble last year, this year we’re calm. We’ve made eight or nine signings, and Javier is here.”
