Milan chief Zvonimir Boban has admitted that “we hoped to be further ahead” but urged fans to believe in the ‘process’.
Milan have won two of their first three Serie A games under Marco Giampaolo, but they have scored just two goals so far and face League leaders Inter in the Derby della Madonnina this weekend.
“It was a crazy transfer window, with a thousand agents who wanted to explain football to us,” Boban told reporters.

“Among a thousand things, I realised that Donnarumma was our man in the dressing room.
“He has so much passion, so much ‘milanismo’, despite being so young. He carries a lot of influence.
“We’ve picked up the points we have. We hoped to be further ahead, but it’s a process, a new beginning.
“Inter will also improve over time. The Nerazzurri are a bit more backed than us, even if it’ll be an open game, 50-50.
“You have to keep the emotions of a derby in check. Even I paid the price for that. There’s more to a derby than other matches.
“It takes a bit of time to combine new players, although good players understand each other quickly.
“Sometimes, after just two training sessions, you feel you’re in tune with some players. Inter are a true 3-5-2 team.
“It’s an easier system than one with four defenders. It’s easier for your game to come together.”
