Rossoneri CEO Adriano Galliani met with Villarreal in Spain today to try and finalise a deal for the Argentinian centre-back.
According to MilanNews, the talks went well, the relationship between the two clubs is very good and discussions will continue over the next few days.
However, with a takeover bid currently looming over the Diavolo, they are limited in what they can do on the transfer market.
The website therefore believes that a deal for Musacchio is dependent on the arrival of funds from the Chinese consortium.
That may not delay the deal for too long, as it was reported earlier today by Chinese state television that a deal is all-but done.
A less attractive alternative for Milan comes down to last season’s top-scorer Carlos Bacca, who is considering an offer from West Ham United.
If the Colombian agrees to join the Hammers for €30m, that money could then be reinvested in Musacchio.
