Milan should consider making a move for Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti, says Massimo Taibi.

Current custodian Christian Abbiati has less than a year left on his contract and the former Rossonero shot-stopper thinks a change may be necessary.

“Abbiati is still one of the best, but he is 35 and you have to think about the future,” Taibi told Milan News.

“I think that [Pescara’s] Mattia Perin can get to the highest levels, but I would not rule out the Marchetti option.

“He is 29, but considering that goalkeepers have long careers, that is still young. I would go for him unless Milan reserve Gabriel turns out to be good.”

The Diavolo could even turn to Marco Amelia, their current No 2. “Amelia may be an answer,” Taibi added. “But you would have to evaluate it carefully as he hasn’t really played for two years.”

Marchetti, who appeared for Italy at World Cup 2010, joined Lazio in 2011 after falling out of favour at Cagliari following a disagreement with President Massimo Cellino.
