Milan released a statement confirming Mateo Musacchio had ankle surgery and is expected to be out for at least four months.
The defender had been struggling with the recurring ankle problem and eventually it was realised that conservative treatment was not sufficient.
“AC Milan announces that Mateo Musacchio has today undergone keyhole surgery to his left ankle, performed by Prof. Ramon Cugat, with Club doctor, Dr Lucio Genesio, in attendance,” read a statement.

“The surgeon pronounced himself satisfied with the operation. The estimated recovery time is 4 months, barring any complications.”
Musacchio turns 30 in August and is under contract with Milan until June 2021.
He had 18 Serie A appearances this season.
