Milan have been granted a UEFA licence to compete in next season’s Europa League, indicating a relatively lenient Financial Fair Play sanction.

The Rossoneri had a voluntary agreement rejected last year, so will be hit with restrictions by the FFP body.

There was an outside chance that they could be excluded from Europe, but UEFA has announced the 14 Serie A clubs granted a licence, and Milan are one of them.

The Rossoneri had a voluntary agreement rejected last year, so will be hit with restrictions by the FFP body.

There was an outside chance that they could be excluded from Europe, but UEFA has announced the 14 Serie A clubs granted a licence, and Milan are one of them.

Five top flight teams, Cagliari, Chievo, Crotone, Benevento and Spal, wouldn’t have been allowed to compete in Europe even if they’d qualified, while Verona would have had to re-apply.

The ruling also means that there is no chance of eighth being good enough for a Europa League slot this season.

Had Milan been denied a licence then the team below them could have entered, but all of the top 10 were granted a licence.

Licenses are granted by the Lega Serie A, adhering to UEFA guidelines and rules.
