Sinisa Mihajlovic admits Sampdoria would not enjoy qualifying for Europe via Genoa’s paperwork problems.
The Blucerchiati went from potential Champions League qualifiers to being stuck in seventh place and their situation was not helped by a 1-1 draw at Empoli.
“In the first half we did not do well, then Empoli’s intensity levels dropped and we were able to play better,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“In the first half we did not do well, then Empoli’s intensity levels dropped and we were able to play better,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.
“We could’ve done better with certain situations and knew it would be difficult, because Empoli are so strong on home turf, beating Inter, Lazio and Napoli.
“We must give them credit and it was important that we didn’t lose today, but we could’ve done better.
“As for Europe, this is an important point and now we have to win the final game. We’ve given our all and mustn’t forget everything we did during the season.
“We weren’t always fortunate and on occasion lacked the necessary determination.”
There is still hope, as Sampdoria could qualify even in seventh place if their city rivals Genoa are denied a UEFA licence.
“I am a football man and it would be scant consolation if we got into Europe like that. We must compliment Genoa, as they deserved qualification on the field.”
Genoa did not register an alternative stadium to the Luigi Ferraris for European games, whereas Sampdoria named Sassuolo’s Mapei Stadium.
The Grifone have lodged an appeal, but it has few chances of being successful.
