The Diavolo lost five of their opening eight League games this term, but a win at Siena next weekend will ensure Champions League qualification.
“We knew we’d have to fight until the end for third place and that’s what we’ll do in the match against Siena,” the centre-back stated following the 0-0 draw with Roma.
“Given how we started this campaign, getting into the Champions League would be like winning the title for us.
“We can’t slip up.”
Mexes also played down his clash with Francesco Totti after the latter was dismissed for elbowing the Frenchman.
“Totti? It’s all sorted, he didn’t mean it,” the former Giallorosso stopper insisted.
