Dries Mertens appealed to the fans after another protest, despite the 2-0 win at Frosinone. “I see a bright future for Napoli.”

The Belgian was on target along with Amin Younes, his 81st Serie A goal allowing him to equal the goals tally for this club by Diego Armando Maradona.

“It’s wonderful to match Maradona’s tally, but the most important thing today was that we win the game,” Mertens told DAZN.

“We played well against Atalanta and wasted a lot of chances, but it’s good to have won.”

There was some tension after the final whistle, as after a banner of protest in the city against the club and President Aurelio De Laurentiis, the ultras refused to accept Jose Callejon’s jersey.

“The fans ask us to sweat for the shirt and that is what we are doing. They have to understand that and I can see a bright future for Napoli.

“I still have a year on my contract, I’m happy here and we’ll see what the club wants.”
