Felipe Melo saw Inter’s 3-1 home win over Sampdoria as “the first step” in their recovery.
The Nerazzurri had won just one of the previous six rounds, dropping to fourth place, but got this success despite Samp having more possession and shots on goal at San Siro.
“We made the first step, which was to get the victory at home. It had been a while. I think we showed that we are a solid squad and deserved the win,” Melo told Sky Sport Italia.

“It’s good for the fans and also us players, as we too suffer when the results don’t come.
“We won 3-1 against a great strike force. They play similar to Fiorentina and Quagliarella is a great champion, so it’s not easy to stop these players.
“It’s a shame that at the end we gave them a goal, but the important thing is to win and to win well.”
Melo also took the opportunity to hit back at referees and his critics.
“I don’t know why people always talk about me. I’ve seen some other really terrible tackles and they don’t get a yellow card or even a foul! With me it’s immediately a red.”
