Mazzarri’s side were 3-0 up with only half an hour to go away to Verona, before capitulating and conceding three times inside 15 minutes.
“There are things in football that aren’t easily explained. I think that, considering the strength of Verona, we’ve given them their hardest test," said Mazzarri in his press conference.
“In the first half we created a lot of chances, in the second we got what we deserved. There were the decisions of the referee, and there were two goals that were avoidable.
“It’s like we forgot who we were, we became arrogant at 3-0.”
Mazzarri praised how his team started in the first half, but also gave credit to Ivan Juric's Verona.
“Juric complimented me, he is an honest man. In the first half we were good against Verona, and it’s correct that he said this.
“However, if they continue in this way, they can work their way out of any situation. Avoiding relegation must be the minimum for them.”
Despite the positivity, Mazzarri states that sometimes his players don’t listen to his instructions.
“Sometimes my words are not listened to. We have had so many problems this year, someone says I complain a lot, so I won’t do it anymore.
“If the team is not fit, today’s brilliant football is difficult to see. We have to continue along these lines. I will be more careful not to celebrate anymore.”
Alejandro Berenguer seemingly plays better away from home, and Mazzarri says the forward might feel fragile at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino.
“In the 3-4-3 you can use it if everyone is doing well, and the trident makes us work harder. I was looking forward to using it and I did. Berenguer perhaps suffers from the pressure of playing at home.”
