Genoa midfielder Francelino Matuzalem has denied mocking Nenad Krsticic after ending his season. “I didn’t mean to hurt him.”

The Brazilian went into a crunching tackle in the early stages of Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Sampdoria, leaving Krsticic with three separate lesions in his ankle.

“I confirm what I told Krsticic at the stadium, in front of the other people who heard our conversation. I am very sad at his injury,” claimed Matuzalem.

“I didn’t mean to hurt him, it was absolutely not my intention to injure him and I hope with all I have that he can recover as quickly as possible.”

Krsticic was furious with Matuzalem, as he suggested the Genoa man was “smirking and laughing” while asking how he was.

“Talking about me trying to intentionally hurt someone is a falsehood that I cannot let pass by in silence. It is also not true that I derided him in the locker room. These injuries can happen.”

Matuzalem has ended the campaigns of two players, as he also hacked down his former Lazio teammate Cristian Brocchi. Again, the Italian claimed Matuzalem had not apologised.
