The basic agreement for the Flamengo talent has been in place for several months and until Friday it was believed the only missing piece of the puzzle was a document.

Agent Vantuil Goncalves was reassuring in an interview with Lancenet, but late on Friday a different picture emerged in Brazil.

“The negotiations are over,” Goncalves told Globo.

“Juventus took us for a ride. They told us they were about to send this document and never did. We are still waiting.

“First they said that they had to focus on the Champions League, but several weeks after their elimination the official paperwork has still not arrived.

“Both Flamengo and Mattheus were upset at this and are now very irritated. I can say the same thing, so I think there will be no deal.”

Mattheus is the 18-year-old son of Brazil’s 1994 World Cup winner Bebeto. He plays as an attacking midfielder and is expected to cost €1.5m from Flamengo.
