Marco Materazzi believes Inter ‘need to realise how good they are’ if his former club are to realise their potential.
Inter added to their squad heavily over the summer but have won just one of their opening three Serie A games and were drawn with Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur in their Champions League group.
“Spalletti’s team need to realise how good they are,” Materazzi, who won the Treble with the Nerazzurri in 2010, told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“We have nothing to envy to others for if we consider the first 12-13 players. We lost to Chelsea in a friendly and then got Barcelona in our group.
“Maybe we thought among ourselves in the dressing room that we weren’t up to it. Tottenham and Barcelona have been playing at certain levels for a long time, but if you beat the English early on, they could go far.
“Nainggolan’s a driving force because he always plays well. He showed a glimpse of what he could give the team at Bologna.
“Does he make news off the field? He’s 30, not 20. He mustn’t hide anything, he’s always given his best on the field.
“De Vrij, like me, is better in a back three. After that, he’s good at setting up attacks. I was similar.
“Skriniar? Last year he confirmed [his talent]. Now it he must act like a leader. He has to take more risks with his game.
“For Inter to reach Juve, they need a big win and a couple more top signings. They currently have Dybala, Douglas Costa and, my favorite, Barzagli on the bench.
“They have a truly legendary team, one who are top notch and an make history, but they know it. They’ve signed Cristiano Ronaldo and they want to win the Champions League.”
