“Our last meeting was my biggest regret so far this season,” said the Coach in his Press conference.
That tie ended 2-2 when Kevin-Prince Boateng converted a penalty at the 99th minute, after lengthy stoppages due to an injury.
“It’s a pity we didn’t come away with the full points considering our performance. Roberto De Zerbi’s side are technically gifted and have good stamina, while for years Sassuolo have been building on their project.
“Cagliari have always stepped on to the field looking for a result. It didn’t always go our way, but we’ve got the second half of the season to change that trend and get the points we deserve.”
January signing Valter Birsa made a good impact in Sardinia, but has been suffering from flu and remains in doubt for this game.
Marco Andreolli, Ragnar Klavan, Marco Sau, Lucas Castro and Alberto Cerri are also unavailable.
“If we have a full squad to choose from, we are very competitive. Unfortunately, it’s always the usual group left to play every time and that does create difficulties.”
There is also the issue of Diego Farias, who scored in last week’s 2-2 draw with Empoli, but is widely expected to leave.
“If Farias proves to me that he is putting the effort in, then he is part of the team. We always have to take the transfer market into consideration in January, but thankfully that all ends soon.”
