Diego Maradona believes Napoli will sell Gonzalo Higuain this summer because “he cannot repeat a season like this.”
Higuain has scored 30 goals in just 32 Serie A appearances, almost double the tally of the next top scorer in the League.
“Observing the situation from the outside, I think Higuain will be sold to raise money,” Maradona told TV station Piùenne.
“He cannot repeat a season like this. He scored basically in every match, 30 goals. Knowing (President Aurelio) De Laurentiis, he will sell.

“But what Napoli must do with the money he brings in is build a wonderful team. Pipita gave his best to Napoli, I don’t think he can repeat this kind of form. We already saw it happen with Pocho Lavezzi.”
Il Pibe de Oro had some controversial words about the Juventus title victory and above all Higuain’s four-match ban, reduced to three on appeal, for insulting the referee.
“If Napoli weren’t challenging for anything, Pipita would’ve been given a one-match ban, but as the team was in the thick of the title race, he got four.
“Juventus have phenomenal players, but also the Italian referees! It’s nothing new, the Juve players are always right. De Laurentiis ought to make himself respected, the way other Napoli directors did in the past. Fiorentina’s disallowed goal yesterday was scandalous…”
The Partenopei lost 1-0 to Roma today, meaning they are only two points clear in second place with three rounds to go.
“It was a very open game. Napoli played very well and could’ve taken the lead, but then got tired and Roma made the most of it.
“Roma didn’t deserve that victory and the draw was the right result. I compliment Maurizio Sarri, because he could not have done any more with this squad.”
Maradona was also full of praise for Senegalese centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly.
“If he was white, he’d be playing for Real Madrid or Barcelona! He’s phenomenal!”
