Diego Maradona promises to return to Italy and “celebrate as a fan” if Napoli win the Scudetto.

The Partenopei are two points clear at the top of Serie A at the half-way point, a feat they haven’t managed since the Argentinian idol inspired them to the Scudetto in 1990.

“If the city of Naples is happy, then Maradona is happier still,” El Diego told Canchallena from Dubai.

“If the city of Naples is happy, then Maradona is happier still,” El Diego told Canchallena from Dubai.

“Records are made to be broken. Napoli are the strongest, they have a lot of ways of playing. For me the biggest rival is Juventus, but now I want the Scudetto.

“If Napoli win, I’ll take a helicopter and go to celebrate in the city as a fan.

“Avanti Napoli!”

Almost certainly the most revered figure in the history of the Vesuviani, Maradona had criticised Coach Maurizio Sarri earlier this season.

However, the World Cup-winner later admitted he’d been wrong, and sent congratulations to the team after yesterday’s 5-1 win over Frosinone.
