Hellas have gone into third place after three rounds after their 1-0 victory away to Torino.
“We changed about 20 of the 27 players in the squad this season,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.
“The same never-say-die spirit remains and was quickly transmitted to the newcomers, as that is how we were able to get results like this in difficult arenas.”
Verona went from newly promoted side to challenging for Europe last season, so can they do even better?
“I don’t know what we can achieve. It’ll be very difficult, but nobody gifted us these points. We can do better in technical and tactical terms, but the important thing right now is to amass points and build confidence.”
One of the new faces is Artur Ionita and the Moldova international scored within a minute of coming off the bench.
“He’s really very talented, hard-working and can play in any midfield role. He was ready when called upon.”
Goalkeeper Rafael has saved three of the last six Serie A penalties he has faced, tonight denying Omar El Kaddouri.
“It was a fairly dubious decision, but it went well anyway and Rafael was decisive,” added Mandorlini.
“I watched the replays two or three times and Marquez seemed to pull out of the tackle. I think the referee waved play on and the decision was given by the assistants.”
