Roberto Mancini has revealed that he asked Inter to sign Edinson Cavani and Marek Hamsik during his time at San Siro.

"Cavani was the first attacker that I recommended to Inter President Massimo Moratti," the Manchester City boss told Il Domani dello Sport.

"You can ask Moratti about it. I saw Cavani in action during his second game in Italy when he appeared at San Siro.

"It's the same scenario for Hamsik. I was his first fan in Italy."

Mancio was Inter boss between 2004 and 2008 before he was replaced at the Stadio Meazza by Jose Mourinho.

Cavani and Hamsik both currently play for Napoli, but the Uruguayan only joined the Stadio San Paolo outfit in 2010 after three years at Palermo.

Hamsik, meanwhile, moved to the Azzurri in 2007 after initially being brought to the peninsula by Brescia from Slovan Bratislava.
