Italy CT Roberto Mancini admits “it hurts us” watching the World Cup from home, especially after seeing the first games.
The Azzurri failed to qualify for the tournament in Russia under Giampiero Ventura, with Mancio replacing him last month.
“It hurts us,” Mancini admitted on a visit to Matera for the 120th anniversary of the FIGC.
“I don’t think anyone here has ever seen Italy out of the World Cup. So it’s not great.

“At the same time, seeing the first games I think Italy could easily compete there, even though we’re not in a brilliant period.”
Having been Zenit St Petersburg Coach, Mancio was also asked about Juventus target Aleksandr Golovin of CSKA.
“He’s a young player who is very good technically, he has the attributes to play in Italy.”
