Udinese have denied claims that they have omitted Maicosuel from their Europa League squad as punishment for costing them a place in the Champions League.

The Udine outfit were knocked out of Europe’s premier club competition after being defeated by Braga, following the player’s unsuccessful attempt to cheekily chip the ‘keeper in the penalty shoot-out.

“The number of players who can be inserted is limited, we needed to make some technical and tactical choices to make the squad as homogeneous as possible,” Udinese director Fabrizio Larini told Udinese Channel.

“After due evaluations, we thought it was better to include a player with particular offensive features such as Ranegie, whereas we have different options for the role of attacking midfielder.

“The exclusion of Maicosuel is not a punishment for the failed penalty at all…

“Udinese are used to waiting for the players coming from other championships and this omission doesn’t mean that he has failed.”
