Douglas Maicon believes Roma “always belong in the Champions League” after securing their spot for next season.

The 1-0 victory away to Fiorentina and Napoli’s draw with Udinese mathematically ensured the Giallorossi a top two finish.

That means automatic qualification for the Champions League group phase without the need for a play-off round first.

“We are happy and satisfied, both for the win and for securing second place,” said Maicon.

“Roma always belong in the Champions League, as it is such an important club and city. The Scudetto race isn’t over as long as we have hope, even though we know Juventus won’t let go either.

“We believed right from the start that we could do it. I am also happy with my own personal performance this season, as I feel important to this team.”
