Sampdoria have suddenly been out-bid for Lokomotiv Zagreb midfielder Lovro Majer by Newcastle United.
A deal was believed to be imminent for €8m plus bonuses and a 20 per cent share of any future transfer.
However, Calciomercato.it claim that Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle have suddenly dived in with an improved offer.
They’d be proposing €11.5m and a salary worth €1.1m per year rather than Sampdoria’s €0.7m.
