Lazio President Lotito is a counsellor to the Federation and was leading negotiations on reform of Serie A, B and Lega Pro with an aim to reduce the various Leagues.
Following controversial comments made by Lotito both in a leaked phone call and in an interview with the Corriere della Sera newspaper, there were calls for him to step down.

This evening FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio met with CONI (Italian Olympic Committee) President Giovanni Malago and Government Minister for Sport Graziano Delrio.
The result was explained in a statement released by the FIGC, confirming Tavecchio will now take charge of the reforms personally.
Although Lotito is never mentioned in the statement, it is clear that the meeting was about removing Lotito from the scenario.
