Roma's Kevin Strootman is ‘extremely disappointed’ to find he will need a longer recovery time from knee surgery.
The player underwent arthroscopic surgery following a knock against Fiorentina last Sunday, initially underplaying the gravity of his condition.
However, today's surgery revealed some cartilaginous damage that will force the player into a longer recovery period than the anticipated one month.
The Dutchman vented his frustration on his Twitter profile.
“The scar tissue from my previous operation has been removed successfully today,” reads the player's profile.
“Unfortunately some cartilaginous damage, caused by the knock in the Fiorentina match, was found too.
“This means I have to take a longer rest period than anticipated earlier and I am extremely disappointed that it will take much longer before I can be back on the pitch again.”
Roma confirmed the news by releasing a statement on their website.
“Kevin Strootman underwent arthroscopic surgery to his left knee today, verifying and confirming the stability of the new ligament and removing the fibrotic tissue (Cyclops Syndrome).
“Some cartilaginous damage was also discovered that required surgical treatment.
“The player already left the hospital and will follow a period of convalescence at home.
“As per protocol, rehabilitation will begin after the first clinical check.”
Neither the player nor the club have released an estimate of when the midfielder will be able to return to the pitch.
