The Giallorossi have been careful to avoid talking about the title despite starting with seven consecutive victories, conceding one goal and scoring 20.
“I am always an optimistic type, but I must admit I didn’t expect us to do so well,” Ljajic told Il Tempo newspaper.
“So far Roma have been fantastic, but we must continue taking it one game at a time, just like Rudi Garcia asks. It’s the only way we can win something.
“Scudetto? I said before I arrived from Fiorentina that only Juventus are stronger than this Roma side. Another four or five, including us, can fight for second place.
“Our minimum objective is to qualify for Europe, then at the end of the day we’ll see where we are.”
The Lupi already passed one big test by beating Inter 3-0 at San Siro, while next weekend they face Napoli.
“The Partenopei are candidates for the Scudetto and have champions of international level, but if we play the way we did in the first seven games then we’ll certainly beat them,” continued Ljajic.
“We are not inferior to Napoli. I was out of the Inter game because I had problems with my back and thigh, but I am ready for the next game.”
The Serbia international had been heavily linked with Milan before making the move to Roma, but insists it was all speculation.
“I never spoke to anyone at Milan. We didn’t agree for a contract extension with Fiorentina and my agent told me Roma were among the clubs interested. ‘Let’s go there,’ I said. I am very happy with my choice, as you can see from the table…”
