Fabio Liverani felt Lecce lost ‘an impossible match’ against Genoa but assured ‘we keep believing’ in Serie A survival.

Lecce equalised on the hour mark and appeared to have done enough for a draw, but Gabriel’s own goal condemned them to a 2-1 defeat.

“I’m struggling to find the words to describe this game. We lost an impossible match,” Liverani told Sky Sport Italia.

“Their goal to go 2-1 up came when we had the game under control. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the rub of the green.

“I can’t say anything about the team's performance objectively and I’m struggling to decipher how we’ve only picked up one point in two games.”

The Salentini go into their last four games four points adrift of safety, so does their coach still believe they can stay up?

“We keep believing and we’ll have to turn things around in these games. We’ll pick up lots of points if we keep playing like this.

“I can’t blame the team for anything. They played with a lot of character, creating a lot.

“The result didn’t reflect the run of play. I didn’t see any difference between us and Genoa.”
