A report in Italy is suggesting that Marcello Lippi has twice rejected the opportunity to become the new Genoa boss.

According to Sport Mediaset, Rossoblu owner Enrico Preziosi has offered the World Cup winning tactician a job on two occasions in the last week.

The story claims that the Marassi patron made contact after his side lost 2-0 to Cesena 10 days ago and then again after Friday’s home defeat to Milan.

Genoa appointed Alberto Malesani in the summer after he rejuvenated his reputation at Serie A club Bologna last term.

The Rossoblu have had an inconsistent campaign so far – they’ve won just four games all season and have lost three of their last four.

Lippi has admitted that he is keen to return to the game, but he’s suggested that he’d like to take charge of an international side.

For now Genoa will keep faith with Malesani, but former Lecce tactician Gigi De Canio is still being suggested as a possible replacement if Malesani is dismissed.
