Marcello Lippi believes Antonio Conte is showing he is ‘the best man’ for the Italy job, whilst he praise Max Allegri’s ‘intelligence’ at Juventus.

Lippi famously guided Italy to World Cup glory in 2006, and believes that new CT Conte has made a positive start to his own tenure on the Azzurri bench.

“The first few Italy games have proved one thing, namely that he [Conte] is the best Italian Coach,” Lippi has told Tuttosport today.

“It’s not true that the Coach of the national team has little to do. When you get the players together you convey your beliefs, your tactical plans and your motivation.

“Conte has started well, very well, in the Italy job. He couldn’t be doing any better. He has shown enthusiasm, and put together a run of victories.”

Lippi, who explained why he believes Carlos Tevez is akin to Zinedine Zidane, also found time to praise Conte’s successor on the Juventus bench, Massimiliano Allegri.

“He’s very talented. He’s shown that already in his career. He has experience, skill and wisdom.

“Wisely, he’s taking advantage of the quality of the team which was cared for an valued by Conte.

“Max is continuing the work of the recent past at Juve, but also bringing his own personality, his own methods and his own way of dealing with the players.

“He’s doing exactly what an intelligent person does.”
