New Milan signing M’Baye Niang has apologised for driving without a licence – but denied claims he told police that he was Bakaye Traore.
The striker, signed from Caen in the summer, was stopped by authorities in central Milan after borrowing the car from teammate Traore.
“I would like to say sorry to all of the fans,” the 17-year-old stated. “Also to Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani, boss Massimiliano Allegri and this magnificent club.
“I made a grave error, but I never said that I was Traore.”
The teenager joined the Diavolo last month after the Italian giants beat a host of English clubs to his signature.
Niang has made one League appearance so far for his new outfit, coming on for Giampaolo Pazzini in the 3-1 win at Bologna.
Milan are expected to fine Niang for his misdemeanour.
